Several thousand people in Colorado wear contact lenses because our climate is so conducive to skiing, biking and motorsports, and contact lenses allow for greater freedom of movement. But, did you know that as many as 70% of contact lens wearers do not follow recommended guidelines for contact lens care?

Contact lens replacement schedules must be followed, and contact lens solutions must be changed daily. Many wearers “top off” the solution in their case rather than cleaning the case and refilling with fresh solution. This allows bacteria to grow in the case so when the contact lens is placed into the case, bacteria adheres to the lens. This is the primary cause of bacterial “pink eye” or conjunctivitis in contact lens wearers.

If you wear contact lenses, you may want to re-evaluate your contact lens care regimen. Check with your optometrist to ensure that you are following the recommended guidelines for contact lens care.
